Tonbridge & Malling is a borough of around 133,000 people, stretching from Tonbridge on the River Medway northward through West Malling, Aylesford and Snodland towards the North Downs. The area takes its name from its two principal towns, combining the historic market town of Tonbridge with the smaller Georgian settlement of West Malling.
Tonbridge Castle features one of England's finest surviving motte-and-bailey gatehouses. West Malling retains its Georgian character, while nearby Kings Hill offers a contrast as a large modern development built on a former airfield. Further north, Aylesford's medieval bridge and priory stand on the Medway just downstream of Maidstone, marking the borough's northern reaches.
Railway stations in the area include Tonbridge, Hildenborough, West Malling, East Malling, Borough Green & Wrotham, Snodland, Aylesford, New Hythe. Tonbridge is a major junction on the London Charing Cross–Hastings and Redhill lines; West Malling and Borough Green are on the London Victoria–Maidstone East line; Snodland, Aylesford and New Hythe are on the Medway Valley line.
